I was looking some Rand's book on a Brazilian bookstore site (Saraiva) and saw this artwork (04/23 is the world book day). I have seen this kind of art everywhere for the last years. It is a pretty nice idea of mixing words and shapes to create an image, in this case a world map. As we can see, the idea is using different writers' name for each country and shape it.
When I saw this advertisement I immediately thought about the poster by Greg Baeuchamp, who made the United States heart map and because that I assume this is a contemporary design.

Design in food

This I found on internet on one of this popup that bothered us. These packings were made by a Russian agency. I would say here we see a contemporary style of making design. We see a clean background, lack of details and overall a simple design. I am pretty sure that the ideia here is promote the product, in this case pasta, by using creativity in showing the different women's hair styles. It funny how they had the ideia of using the paste shapes to make and show the different kind of hairs. And I assume it was a great idea to sell because when people see that, the first thing is have some fun...and graphic design is also fun!

Poster for a concert

I saw this on a rock page in my facebook page. This is a poster to promote a concert in São Paulo city. This concert show from a North American band happened on the last month. We can see that the concept of this poster was influenced by psychedelic era. The font used on the name of the band is a clear reference to psychedelic style. The chosen colors and the imanges overlapping each other is also a psychedelic philosophy, and although the band be relatively recent (2007) its music style has a lot influence from music made in 60' and 70'. A very nice poster bringing back a past era on graphic design and showing that we still can make a new design based on the past.

I found this very interesting anti smoking advertisement on internet. It is a critique against the money people spend in cigarettes, instead investing in their children education or fun and teaching them how to use their money in a better way. It is interesting as they used the colors in the word, the colored words (good use of money) in contrast with blacked words (misuse of money).

I saw this while I was looking the magazine Photographer's Forum  on Parkland. It's a nice advertisement which mix the idea of speed up the possibilities of having a career. Of course there is a woman wearing a nice and dynamic clothing and a helmet. And an exemplary motorcycle reinforcing the idea of velocity.

Book cover

This is the cover of a book I bought on Barnes and Noble for a friend. The cover has abstract elements (black and white) found in post modernism/era without standardized convention and has been used a lot on covers of the literature classics. The ideia is to promote the connection between past literature and modern readers, resulting in sales. In Brazil they have followed the same ideia, almost for the same books, which is a trend around the world.

This advertising is to promote the store and its products. I saw this on a wall of advertisements while walking by the mall. I really like the way they play with the needle and yarn together making a letter K, which stands for the name of the store "Klose Knit".

Book covers

Two different exemples:

Another book cover. I was on the best place in Champaign-Urbana, Barnes and Noble, and I thought this cover really cool. The function is obviously, captivate the costumer and sell the book.  I do not know this book and the author, but the concept created to the cover tells me that the content should describe a person without limit. Someone who has a infinite brain, as the universe. Someone who has several stories to tell. Then I looked the review behind, and I read exactly what I thought when just looking the cover. Maybe the function worked, because I am interested in the book now, the cover led me to the review and now I see the real function of a interesting and quality cover.

The second cover has the same function, sell it. But the argument is different. We see a new book, printed on the last weeks but with a rustic and 'out of time' cover. Why? It is part of a classic collection of books, they are pretty when they are together. The cover recall a old and classic time. This kind of cover makes you feel as you were back in the past. For those who love the classics, like me, it is pretty easy to be convinced to buy them.

Book

This a book cover. We can see the style of the font which gives a movement from who is inside the train. The function by doing this effect is bring curiosity, first to the viewer and than occasionally to a reader.

CD cover - Photo 3

Here we have an example ofhow we can be more boldly with a new typeface. This is a CD cover of a Brazilian rock band. They have used a lot of geometry in their project designs. That particularly has tree letters, GLM - first letter of each name, forming together a gear. Creative!

Envelope - Photo 2

It is a envelope from a music company. I would say we almost can sing while reading this letters. This typeface uses audio cords as an extension of the letters, simulating the cables to connect electric  instruments. The idea is pretty simple, but very interesting and functional. Since the company is also a connection between artist and consumer, two connectors starting and ending the letters/slogan can give the idea of this connection.

Seinfeld - Photo 1

For my first picture I chose one of my favorite Sitcoms ever. The design is pretty simple and I like simple design. It has entertained me for years and years, and I never get tired of this. There are always something new that I did not get before. It is an ironic TV show...just like me! :-)
